Part 5: Ægea Blessed the Ten

“Whether mortal or immortal be,” began
Ambrose in human form, “Cynara and I
Are one entity, presenting as male and
Female, expressions appealing to mother’s
Heart or father’s brow.” “Same thoughts in
Word or song, glen or glade,” Cynara added,
“Water flowing or rippling pool, sunlit
Forest place, which of these do you prefer?”
“For they or we are one in same,” in unison
They stated, voices blending. Thus, concept
Of one god was understood, many facets
Of divine, originating as Holy Mother, Ægae.

Lo! Upon holy mount, time was fluid-flowing,
Great armies fighting in the name of god
Realized defeat, no victories or glories, both
Sides sword slaughtering husbands, brothers
Sons, destroying farms, field beasts, pillaging
Villages and towns, treasuries and coffers
Empty, gold and blood spilled, to what end?
“My children,” Ægae stated to the ten, “Know
That I am always with you, even on dark and
Dismal days, sun is present when cloud
Obscured. In time of need or despair, trust
Prayer, for I am nigh, shoulder touching.

Thus, Ægea blessed the ten, each skills and
Gifts given: healing, teaching, prophesy, verse
And prose, oracular sight, wisdom and mercy,
Disciples mountain descending, serving sick,
Hungry, poor, humankind in name of god,
Single deity, however defined, all religions
Returned to holy mount, branches of single
Tree with one root, thoughts and words of
Divine wisdom emanating from Ægae, her
Arms earth entwined. With each step taken
To forests, farmlands below, ten realized
Deific presence of hundred eyes and ears.

What became of young Iola? Was she forever
Lost to Ægae’s mind and light? Eventually she
Was released, priestess, thyrsi in hand, temple
Guardian, bronze-door standing. Holy Mount,
Mother’s breast, she never left, for world she
Knew was no more. Time, heavenly stream,
Washed away pain and grief, one outcome of
Warring generations, pleasant story of the skies,
Was Iola and Ægae merging, teaching divine
Thought of earth’s creation, when Ambrose
And Cynara first surveyed Pindus mountain
Glens and glades.

Aside from being palindrome, who or what is Holy Mother Ægea? I saw her as Gæa or Ge, thus the variant spelling, goddess venerated since Neolithic times. Perhaps Ægea is akin to classical “Nous,” abstract concept of divine set forth by pre-Socratic Greek philosopher, Anaxagoras:

“And Nous set in order all things that were to be, and all things that were and are not now and that are, and this revolution in which now revolve the stars and the sun and the moon, and the air and the aether that are separated off. And this revolution caused the separating off, and the rare is separated off from the dense, the warm from the cold, the light from the dark, and the dry from the moist. And there are many portions in many things. But nothing is altogether separated off nor distinguished from anything else except Nous. And all Nous is alike, both the greater and the smaller; while nothing else is like anything else, but each single thing is and was most manifestly those things of which it has most in it.” — Anaxagoras
